The Temptation of Hunger

Merciful God,

Satan tempted Jesus in his hunger, taunting, “If you are the Son of God, command these stones to become loaves of bread.” But Jesus resisted, saying, “It is written that one does not live by bread alone, but by the word that comes from the mouth of God.” Sustain in this life, not only with bread, but with your Word, O God. Help me never to forget that I need both physical and spiritual food, each day, and feed me.
